What is FireStarters?
FireStarters is a community of believers who gather to praise God and encourage each other. We believe in the Bible as the inspired and inerrant word of God. We also believe that spiritual gifts are still given to the whole church, and we seek to practice them together for our mutual encouragement. You can find out more information on our About Us page.
When and where do you meet?
Currently, we meet Tuesdays at 6:30 PM at 7312 Cotton Plant Cove, Memphis, TN 38119. Always check our Facebook group to make sure we are meeting that week. We try to end by 8:30 PM, but feel free to come and go as you need to. You are welcome to stay after our service for prayer and counseling.
What should I expect?
Any time that believers gather to worship God, something special happens. Here are four values of our community that shape what we do on Sunday nights.
· Participation – We believe that God can speak through all believers, not just the church leadership. We encourage you to share your gifts with the congregation in worship. (1 Corinthians 14:26) If you have a song, a word, a prayer, a poem, or something else that God has put in your heart, we are eager to receive it. Obviously, our leadership makes sure that everything is done in an orderly manner (1 Corinthians 14:40), but do not be surprised if you are invited up front to give or receive a blessing.
· Freedom – We value a culture where we can approach God with freedom and confidence (Ephesians 3:12). You are welcome to worship as the Lord leads because where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (1 Corinthians 14:40). You are free to sing, to dance, to wave a banner, or to do whatever is fitting to honor God. If you are moved to do something that brings glory to God we want to welcome and value your contribution. We only ask that your worship keep the focus on God and not on yourself.
· Creativity – We value creativity. On any given night we may have painters painting, dancers dancing, poets reading their poems, comedians rejoicing, and more. While musical worship is a powerful way to encounter the living God, we know that there are also many other ways to glorify Him. We seek to encourage the creative gifts in any way that is good and praiseworthy. (Philippians 4:8)
· The Presence of God – Our ultimate goal in worship is to experience the presence of God. God is, of course, omnipresent so we are always in his presence (Psalm 139:7-12). However, there are times where the Spirit begins to stir us more perceptively, or make His presence known (Judges 13:25, Acts 2:2). We seek to invite the sanctifying presence of the Holy Spirit and respond to his promptings to guide us both personally and corporately. We are willing to change our plans for the evening when it becomes apparent that the Spirit is leading another way. Our goal is for any visitor among us to be able to say “God is really among you!” (1 Corinthians 14:25)
